12 israelis killed by palestinian action this month
Killingsfields in Gaza. Israel doesn't want peace
The IOF intensifies its Operation Hot Winter on the 1st, sending large numbers of ground troops into the Jabaliya area, Bayt Hanun, Gaza City, marking Israel’s largest ground incursion into northern Gaza since 2005. As Palestinians across the Strip hunker down in their homes, IDF troops accompanied by tanks, helicopters, warplanes conduct house-to-house searches for weapons in the Jabaliya area, clashing with local gunmen, occupying homes as staging areas, directing tank fire at residential and commercial buildings, rounding up 10s of Palestinians for questioning, bulldozing electricity and telephone cables. The IDF also continues intensive air strikes across Gaza, destroying a mosque frequented by Hamas security forces, as well as alleged weapons stores and several police stations. At least 62 Palestinians are killed including 29 civilians, of which at least 15 are children, and 7 women. This is the highest casualty count on a single day during the 2nd Intifada, and marks the desperate measures from the Israeli government to make Gaza collapse. Another 22 are killed on the 2nd, and 9 on the 3rd. A total of 127 Palestinians are killed by the IOF during March. Israel pays for its mass killings when on the 6th an armed Palestinian enters the library of Mercaz Harav in Jerusalem, Israel’s leading Zionist yeshiva and the ideological home of the far-right religious settler movement, and opens fire on students with an AK-47, killing 8 Israelis and wounding 9 before an IDF soldier and 2 undercover policemen enter the building and shoot him dead; Israeli security officials identify the attacker as a bus driver for the school and an East Jerusalem resident who apparently acted alone. Israel steps up settlement plans.
On the 12th, Hamas’s Haniyeh publicly offers Israel a comprehensive cease-fire deal covering the West Bank and Gaza in exchange for a lifting of the siege of Gaza and a halt to all Israeli “assassinations, killings, and raids.” The Israeli government does not officially reply to Hamas' cease-fire offer, but steps up assassasinations of Hamas and Islamic Jihad members. Nonetheless the IOF carries out fewer incursions and air attacks, and Palestinian rocket and mortar attacks also diminish.
