77 palestinians killed by israeli action this month
30 israelis killed by palestinian action this month

    2002
2004

IDF starts the year by killing 3 palestinian kids, age 14-15, who approach the Gaza settlements of Aley Sinai, Dugit, Nisanit.

In retaliation for Israeli invasions and assassinations, AMB performs a coordinated suicide attack in Tel Aviv killing 22. The US war on Iraq is close, so Israel restrains, "only" firing 8 missiles at metal workshops in Gaza. the random killings and assassinations however continue. 3 days before israeli elections, IDF invades Gaza City killing 14 palestinians. On election eve IDF invades Jinin killing 5. Likud wins a landslide victory taking 38 seats (out of 100), doubling from 19 in 2001. Arafat calls on Sharon to immediately resume peace talks in light of his election victory, but Sharon says he will not deal with Palestinians “involved in terror.” Also Bush phones Sharon to congratulate him on his election victory. Also calling to congratulate Sharon are Egyptian Pres. Husni Mubarak, who invites him to reopen peace talks with the Palestinians in Cairo after his new government is formed, and European Union (EU) chairman Romano Prodi who urges him to take action on the road map quickly, now that elections are over.

Reversing an 8/18/02 decision, the Israeli High Court rules that the IDF’s "neighborhood procedure" (i.e., sending a Palestinian to warn a wanted individual to surrender to IDF troops waiting nearby) is legal, saying the IDF may not force Palestinians to act as human shields, but it may use them if they “volunteer.”
