62 palestinians killed by israeli action this month
2 israelis killed by palestinian action this month
In Tel Aviv, some 100,000 Israeli demonstrators on May 3rd demand Olmerts resignation for his handling of the 2006 Lebanon war, corruption in his administration, and failure to improve social services and public education. Turnout reportedly is half of what organizers anticipated.
On May 4th IOF ambushes a car carrying Islamic Jihad members i Gaza killing 2 and a bystander. Islamic Jihad retaliates the following days by launching rockets into Israel
On May 10th President Abbas deploys 3000 members of PA Security Forces under his control into Gaza. This step is coordinated with the US and Israel and is meant to undermine Hamas. This measure immediately causes clashes between the two factions, escalating the following days. After 6 days the IOF enters into the clashes when they carry out an air strike on Hamas loyal forces in Rafah killing 3. Israeli PM Ehud Olmert convenes his security cabinet which authorizes the IDF to carry out “severe and harsh” attacks on Gaza, including assassinations of resistance leaders, to prevent further rocket fire, effectively ending the 11/26/06 Gaza cease-fire, frequently violated by both sides. Palestinians resume heavy rocketing of southern Israel. One day later IOF intensifies its air strikes on Gaza in support of Abbas' aim to weaken Hamas. Palestinians retaliate with more rockets. Israel continues with air strikes and assassinations. 62 Palestinians are killed by the IOF this month. Thousands strike on the West Bank demaning a ceasefire between Hamas and Fatah, and the clashes diminish somewhat.

Overnight, Lebanese police
and soldiers raid several homes in Tripoli in an attempt to capture a group
connected to the tiny militant group, Fatah al-Islam (FI), that was suspected of carrying out a bank robbery on
