0 israelis killed by palestinian action this month
Israel continues its war against Gaza. During an offensive on August 14th, 10 Palestinians are killed. A total of 57 Palestinians are killed by the IOF during the month. On the 29th The IOF launches air strikes on 5 rocket-launching sites near Bayt Hanun, killing 3 Palestinian children (ages 8–12); Israel says it hit viable targets, claiming that Hamas was using the children to “adjust” the launchers, states its “sorrow for the cynical use the terror organizations make of the active participation of teenagers in terror attacks”. Two days later the IOF admit the three killed children were playing tag, not retrieving a rocket launcher.
On the 15th Israel cuts the fuel supplies for Gaza, cutting the Nahal Oz pipeline. Two days later the population in Gaza begin experiencing longer blackouts caused by the fuel shortage. The fuel supply is resumed on the 22nd, only after the EU gets assurances that Hamas will not benefit from sales of electricity, undermining EU complicity in the war against Gaza.
Fascist settlers in especially the Hebron area continue attacks against Palestinians.
2 fascist settlers from the Mitzpe Ya’ir outpost outside Hebron attack a UN vehicle carrying 3 UN employees and 2 Israeli journalists, breaking the windshield, placing large rocks in front of the tires to prevent it from moving, injuring 1 UN employee; the IDF, Israeli police arrest the settlers, who are quickly released on bail.
UNRWA appeals to Israel to allow 5 truckloads of paper into Gaza so that textbooks may be printed for students, who resume classes on September 1st, arguing that the paper constitutes humanitarian aid; Israel refuses, saying the paper might be used to print books “with Hamas ideology . . . or for other propagandist endeavors.”
